After a really busy week last week, I'm hoping to get some sewing done this week.
The curtains for the Florist are finished and hung, but not without drama. I was rushing to finish, using my 'Rescue' Newhome machine, when the nut on the end of the handwheel flew off! I couldn't fix it at that moment as I had the curtains to finish, so I just had to change to the Super Novum. To be honest, this machine runs a lot better, just a bit quieter and smoother. Anyway, that job is done, just the door curtains to do now, but no rush for those, but already the lady is talking about Mothers Day!
Anyway, there are two projects lined up for this week. I got a Kindle for my birthday, and need a cover for it. Should be simple enough, the hard part for me is always picking the fabric. The other thing is - Bunting!
We went to the Wedding venue my daughter has chosen for next year, and before we had dinner we went for a stroll. There was a lovely craft shop, selling cards, craft supplies, and the most beautiful appliqued items. So, DGD has a birthday in February, and I'm going to make Bunting.
I'll be putting some photos up, and maybe a tutorial on the Kindle cover, if the camera behaves. Off to do some work now, before choosing fabrics....
A place where I can share my thoughts and interests with anyone who stumbles across me....

Back to normal...
Well, it's not my birthday today, so no lovely cards to start the day, and the weather is bitterly cold and foggy. Lots to do though, and I've brought lots of fabric into work to cut out.
We have a large room at work, which we use to store old stock and unused items, so my husband said I could use it for sewing if we were quiet. I put my old dining room table in there with a couple of large pieces of laminated MDF on top, and put an old mattress cover over it to make a work/cutting table. It works perfectly, just needs the mattress cover trimming off! All my cutting mess is now at work, and I even manage a bit of sewing there sometimes.
I have three sewing machines at work. The first was given me by a customer, and is a Super Novum. It's a smashing machine, but doesn't have many special feet, so I don't use it as much as I should. The second is a hand cranked Jones Family CS, and was also a gift from a customer. I managed to get it working, but it isn't in very good condition, and I don't use it at all. It came with a couple of feet though which I can use on other machines. The last sewing machine I have at work is a 'Rescue' machine. It was left at the side of a skip, and when I asked, the owner said I could have it as it didn't work. It's a Newhome, and in excellent condition and also has a good variety of extra feet. When I threaded it up, it became obvious why it wouldn't work - the needle was in the wrong way! The bobbin is on the side, and so the needle needs to be threaded from the side. It now sews beautifully, and I use it for the majority of the sewing I do at work.
After my recent purchase of a Pfaff 4850 Coverline, I also brought my old Riccar Overlocker to work. It needs new blades, and I'll get Bob Green (Sewing machine Guru), to sort those out for me, and it will do me well as a second machine.
Pictures will follow but for now, I must do some work....

Let the blog begin.....
This is the Birthday Card I got from my youngest daughter, and I knew it was the perfect way to start my blogging!
My blog will not appeal to everyone, I don't do exciting things, on the whole my life is pretty mundane and that's the way I like it. Along the way I hope to share some experiences - good and bad, share a little gossip, and gain some friends.
My mind is a bit like a sink, all kinds of detritus floating round it, and this blog will be an attempt to collect some coherent thoughts and arrange them in a kind of order. I think I suffer from a sort of OCD, when I get interested in something, I worry it to death, so I won't be at all surprised if you don't always follow me!
Today is my birthday, I'm 58 and I got some wonderful presents, favourite up to now a Kindle! Charging up nicely as we speak. I also treated myself to a Pfaff 4850 Coverline, from eBay. It looks hardly used, and I will be letting you know how we get on. To date, I have had a bit of a tootle round, but done no 'proper sewing' on it. Looks a serious piece of kit though.
My day is looking to be quite full, as the government require me to provide information for the Inland Revenue, and HMRC (AKA the VATman), but I'm hoping to do a bit of sewing later. The Florist next door has asked me to make some curtains for her Valentines display, so I'm looking to get those out of the way so that I can start some serious projects!
